Google: Your Go-To Problem Solver

The moment we’re born, our learning journey starts right away. To survive with life’s struggles or to adjust to a totally new situation, we have to keep learning new things every day. Some people learn for fun, some are forced to learn when they have no other option, and some end up learning only after getting embarrassed.

If I talk about myself, I’ve learned a lot of things because I was embarrassed first. Let me share one story with you.

Before I tell you that, here’s a bit of background — I had access to a computer, phone, and the internet quite early in life. But honestly, I didn’t know how to really use them properly. I opened a Gmail account just because I needed it for something, and then left it alone. Now and then, I’d Google some random info or download songs and movies. That was it.

Then I finished university and stepped into the job world. As a fresher, I found a lot of things confusing. Very quickly I realised that student life and working life are miles apart. In my job, I found out how much you actually need data and analysis for things like making a business plan, a marketing plan, or a forecast.

Whenever I needed some data at work, I ran to a colleague. Sometimes they helped me, but most of the cases they were too busy. One day, one of my colleagues got a bit annoyed and said, “Hey man, can’t you just Google it?”

That line really hit me. I felt bad and embarrassed, but it also opened my eyes. The same Google I’d used here and there for silly things — I realised I’d never really used it properly. From that day, I decided: if nothing else, I’d at least learn how to use Google well. After that, whenever I needed any information, I’d first ask “Google Mama”.

Slowly, the more time I spent on Google, the more I discovered. It’s not just about searching random things, opening a Gmail, or watching YouTube. Google is actually a complete workspace. Almost anything you want to do, you’ll find there’s some Google tool for it.

Now I love Google Workspace so much, it’s hard to explain. And why wouldn’t I? If I need to write anything, I open Google Docs. For numbers or quick data checks, I open Google Sheets. I use Google Calendar to keep my daily to-do lists. I save important docs & files in Google Drive, and for quick notes, I use Google Keep. The best part? I can use Docs, Sheets, Keep — all of them offline too. So I can check my needful anytime & anywhere, straight from my smartphone.

Before this, I used to write my notes in a notebook. But there’s only so much you can do this way. For bigger tasks like writing or Excel, I’d wait to get home and sit at my PC — and half the time, laziness would win and I’d never get it done. Many good ideas just disappeared because of that.

But that one line from my colleague — “Can’t you just Google it?” — changed everything for me. It introduced me to a whole world of useful tools. Now, honestly, I’m almost fully dependent on Google Workspace. I use these tools for nearly everything in my everyday work. I don’t need to wait for my laptop anymore. Whenever I need to note something down, I just pull out my phone and update Docs, Sheets, Keep or Drive on the spot.

Today I mentioned only a few Google tools that I use a lot. There are many more. Take some time to explore them yourself. You’ll see how much easier your life can get. Who knows — you might end up loving Google Workspace as much as I do!

So, I started this story by saying — as long as we’re alive, we’ll always have to keep learning to survive. And to really learn, you need the curiosity to know more. If you don’t have that, then like me, you’ll learn the hard way — through awkward moments or when you have no other choice. But still, learning something new always feels good in the end.

বিপদের বন্ধু গুগল মামুর আদ্যোপান্ত

এই পৃথিবীতে আমাদের আগমনের সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই শেখার পরিক্রমাটা শুরু হয়ে যায়। জীবনযুদ্ধে টিকে থাকার কিংবা সম্পূর্ণ ভিন্ন একটি পরিবেশের সাথে নিজেকে মানিয়ে নেয়ার নিমিত্তে আমাদের প্রতিনিয়ত নতুন নতুন জিনিস শিখতে হয়। প্রতিনিয়ত এই শেখাটাই অনেকে শিখে শখ করে, কেউ ঠেকায় পরে শিখে, কেউবা আবার শিখে লজ্জায় পরে।    

আমার কথা যদি বলি; আমি আমার জীবনে বেশ কয়েকবার লজ্জায় পরে অনেক কিছু শিখেছি। এর মধ্যে উল্লেখযোগ্য একটা ঘটনা শেয়ার করি। 

তার আগে বলে নেই; কম্পিউটার, ফোন, ইন্টারনেটের এক্সেস অনেক আগে থেকেই পেয়ে গিয়েছিলাম কিন্তু এগুলোকে ইউটিলাইজ করা তখনও শিখিনি। একটা জিমেইল আইডি ওপেন করার প্রয়োজন ছিল বলে খুলে ফেলে রেখেছিলাম। মাঝে সাঝে টুকটাক তথ্য সার্চ দেয়া আর গান/ম্যুভি ডাউনলোড করার জন্য গুগল করতাম। 

এভাবেই ভার্সিটির গণ্ডি পেরিয়ে চাকরি জীবনে ঢুকে গেলাম। As a fresher শুরুতে অনেক কিছু বুঝতে সমস্যা হতো। অচিরেই ছাত্র জীবন আর চাকরি জীবন; এই দুই'র মাঝে বিস্তর ফারাক বুঝতে পারলাম। চাকরি জীবনে এসে বুঝতে পারলাম বিজনেস প্ল্যান, মার্কেটিং প্ল্যান, ফোরকাস্টিং এসবের জন্য প্রয়োজন প্রচুর পরিমানে ডেটা এবং সে অনুযায়ী এনালাইসিস। 

যাইহোক অফিসে যখনই কোনো ডেটার প্রয়োজন পরত তখনই কোনো কলিগের কাছে ছুটে যেতাম কখনো হেল্প পেতাম আবার বেশীরভাগ সময় পেতাম না তাদের কাজের ব্যস্ততার কারণে। একদিন কলিগ বিরক্তির সঙ্গে বলেই বসলো যে, "আরে মিয়া গুগল করতে পারেন না?" 

কথাটা শুনার পর একই সঙ্গে কষ্ট ও লজ্জার পাশাপাশি টনকটাও নড়ে ভীষণভাবে গিয়েছিল আমার। যেই আমি আগে "কাজ কম অকাজে বেশী" গুগল মামা'কে ইউজ করতাম সেই আমি সেদিনই সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম এক্সপার্ট না হই অন্তত গুগল খুব ভালভাবে শিখব। সেদিনের পর থেকে মনে গেঁথেই নিয়েছিলাম যে এখন থেকে কোনো তথ্যের প্রয়োজন হলেই গুগল মামার দ্বারস্থ হবো। 

এভাবেই গুগলে সময় দেয়া শুরু করতে করতে একটা সময় আবিষ্কার করলাম গুগল শুধুমাত্র সার্চ দেয়া, জিমেইল খোলা কিংবা ইউটিউবে ভিডিও দেখার মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ না। অনেক কিছুর সমন্বয়ে গুগল একটি ওয়ার্কস্পেস। জীবনের প্রতিটি কাজকেই কোনো না কোনোভাবে গুগলের কোনো না কোনো টুলসের আওতায় ফেলা যাবে। 

গুগল ওয়ার্কস্পেসটাকে এখন আমি এতটা বেশী পছন্দ করি তা বলার বাহিরে। কেনই'বা পছন্দ করবনা বলুন। কোনো ডকুমেন্টেশন করতে হলে গুগল ডক্স ইউজ করতে পারি, ম্যাথমেটিক্যাল কোনো এনালাইসিসের জন্য চট করেই খুলে ফেলি একটি গুগল শিট, দৈনন্দিন কাজের টু ডু লিস্টের জন্য আছে ক্যালেন্ডার অপশন, গুরত্বপূর্ণ ফাইলগুলো সেইভ করে রাখতে পারি গুগল ড্রাইভে, যেকোনো বিষয় ঝটপট নোট রাখার জন্য ওপেন করে ফেলি গুগল কিপ। সবচেয়ে মজার ব্যাপার হচ্ছে ডক ফাইল, গুগল শিট কিংবা গুগল কিপ এগুলোকে অফলাইনে এভেইলেবল করে মোবাইলে যখন তখন, যেকোনো জায়গা থেকেই বসেই ব্যবহার করা যায়। 

আগে নোট রাখার জন্য কিংবা দৈনিক কাজের টু ডু লিস্ট মেইন্টেইন করতাম খাতা কলমে লিখে রেখে। এভাবে আর কতটুকুই বা সম্ভব হতো। তারপর গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ডকুমেন্টেশন কিংবা এক্সেলের কাজের জন্য বাসায় যাওয়ার অপেক্ষা করতাম, ভাবতাম বাসায় গিয়ে পিসিতে করে ফেলব। অনেক সময় দেখা যেত অলসতার কারণে, লিখা হয়ে উঠতনা। ফলে যেটা হতো অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আইডিয়া মাথা থেকে সম্পূর্ণ মুছে যেত। 

কিন্তু, ঐ যে শুরুতে উল্লেখ করা আমার কলিগের সেই একটা কথা আমাকে দারুণ একটি রিসোর্সের সঙ্গে পরিচয় করিয়ে দিয়েছে। এখন আমি বলতে গেলে পুরোটাই গুগল ওয়ার্কস্পেস নির্ভর। নিত্যদিনের প্রায় সকল কাজেই গুগলের টুলসগুলো খুব স্মুথলি ব্যবহার করি। এখন আমাকে আর পিসি কিংবা ল্যাপটপের আশায় বসে থাকতে হয়না। কোনো তথ্য ইনপুট করার প্রয়োজন হলে instantly পকেটে থাকা স্মার্টফোন বের করি আর ইনপুট দিয়ে দেই গুগলের ডক, শিট, কিপ কিংবা ড্রাইভে। 

আজকের লিখায় গুগলের অনেক অনেক টুলস থেকে গুটিকয়েক কিছু টুলসের কথা উল্লেখ করলাম যেগুলো আমি অনেক বেশী ব্যবহার করি। বাদবাকি অন্যান্য টুলসগুলো নিজেই একটু ঘাটাঘাটি করে দেখে নিন। দেখবেন জীবনটা অনেক বেশী সহজ হয়ে যাবে। এমনও হতে পারে গুগল ওয়ার্কস্পেসের প্রতি আলাদা একটা ফ্যাসিনেশন চলে আসলেও আসতে পারে। 

যাহোক, শুরুতে শুরু করেছিলাম এই লিখে যে, যতদিন বেঁচে থাকবেন ততদিন টিকে থাকার জার্নিতে শিখতে আপনাকে হবেই। আর শিখার জন্য থাকতে হবে অনেক বেশী জানার আগ্রহ। আর আগ্রহ না থাকলে আমার মত এরকম লজ্জায় পরে কিংবা ঠেকে শিখতে আপনাকে হবেই। তবে হ্যাঁ, নতুন কোনো কিছু শেখার মজাই অন্যরকম। 

আজ আমি আমার অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করে গেলাম, এখন লিখাটি যদি আপনার কাছে পৌঁছে থাকে তাহলে আমন্ত্রণ রইলো গুগল ওয়ার্কস্পেস নামক দারুণ একটি প্ল্যাটফর্মে ঝাপ দেয়ার। এখানে ঝাঁপ দিতে প্রয়োজন হবে একটি জিমেইল আইডি আর অনেক বেশী শেখার ইচ্ছা।
