Oceangate Titan: A Watery Grave Bought With Money

Death — there’s no truth harsher or more merciless than this. When the call from above comes, it only takes a few nanoseconds to leave it all behind — loved ones, lifelong dreams, and empires built piece by piece.

The OceanGate Titan tragedy is one such example. From what I learned, everyone on that submersible was a millionaire, and each of them paid around $250,000 for the journey. There’s a saying: “Luxury has a heavy price.” Chasing a thrill, driven by adventure, they went down to see the Titanic — which itself sank into the ocean over a hundred years ago. But if they had known this adventure would cost them their lives in such a tragic way, would they have gone at all? Not a chance.

It’s human nature to fight death and try to find ways to live forever. But death is the one truth you simply can’t outrun. History shows us people have spent their entire fortunes hoping to keep breathing on this earth just a little longer. Take Michael Jackson, for example — one of my favorite musicians. He did everything money could buy to stay young and live on. Yet, he died at just 50.

I’ve witnessed some painfully tragic deaths in my own life. I’ve even seen people surrender themselves willingly to death’s door. The OceanGate Titan story is like that — five people bought tickets and embraced death deep in the ocean. Another watery grave added to history.

ওশেনগেট টাইটান; কেনা সলিল সমাধি

মৃত্যু ব্যাপারটা সবচেয়ে কঠোর এবং নির্মম একটি সত্য। উপরের ডাকে সাড়া দিয়ে পাড়ি দিতে হয় কয়েক ন্যানো সেকেন্ডের ব্যবধানেই। রেখে যেতে হয় প্রিয় মানুষ, অনেক বছর ধরে দেখা স্বপ্ন কিংবা তিলে তিলে গড়ে তোলা সাম্রাজ্য।

ওশেনগেট টাইটান তেমনই একটা উদাহরণ। যতটুকু জেনেছি এই সাবমারসিবলে যাত্রা করা প্রত্যেকেই ছিলেন ধনকুবের এবং জনপ্রতি গুনতে হয়েছে ২,৫০,০০০/- মার্কিন ডলার। বলা হয়ে থাকে শখের তোলা নাকি আশি টাকা। তাই ওনারা শখের বশে; এডভেঞ্চারের নেশায় যাত্রা করেছিলেন শত বছর আগে সলিলসমাধি হওয়া টাইটানিক দেখতে। কিন্তু এই শখ যে তাদের করুণ মৃত্যুর কারণ হবে সেটা যদি জানত কখনো কি এই expedition এ বের হত? মোটেও না!

মানুষের চিরাচরিত স্বভাব হচ্ছে মৃত্যু থেকে বেঁচে অমরত্ব লাভ করা। কিন্তু মৃত্যু এমন একটি বিষয় যা থেকে চাইলেও বাঁচা সম্ভব নয়। পৃথিবীর বুকে এমনও ইতিহাস আছে যে, মানুষ তাঁর সারাজীবনের সঞ্চয় খরচ করেও পৃথিবীতে বেঁচে থাকতে চায়। মাইকেল জ্যাকসন; আমার পছন্দের একজন মিউজিসিয়ান। তিনি অমরত্ব লাভের জন্য কি না করেছেন? অথচ মৃত্যুকালে তাঁর বয়স হয়েছিল মাত্র ৫০ বছর।

যাহোক আমি আমার জীবনে খুব করুণ কিছু মৃত্যু দেখেছি। এমনও মৃত্যু দেখেছি যেখানে একজন ব্যক্তি স্বয়ং নিজে থেকেই মৃত্যুর কাছে নিজেকে সমর্পণ করে দিয়েছে। ওশেনগেট টাইটানের ঘটনাটি তেমনই একটা incident. যেখানে ৫ জন ব্যক্তি টিকেট কেটে মৃত্যুকে বরণ করে নিলেন। পৃথিবীর বুকে ঘটল আরও একটি সলিলসমাধি।
